Apartment for rent from € 89/day in CataniaName/Address:
The bedrooms are elegantly furnished with period furniture, they have ceilings over five meters high, all frescoed, and balconies overlook the main stretch of Via Etnea (the "straight road" as it was called affectionately by people of Catania, in the past). From them you can see the three main squares of the historic center (Stesicoro Square, University Square and Cathedral Square), the spectacular Etna with a white top in winter and a totally black one in summer.
The still-beating heart of this old and noble dwelling is the large hall where, in the past, noble families were receiving friends, relatives and authorities for special celebrations such as engagements, weddings, baptisms and historical anniversaries. This hall could be the only one in which Richard Wagner has played, during his trip in Sicily.
The vault is entirely decorated in shades of blue and gold, and it represents typical Sicilian landscapes for each of the four seasons, while dragons argue the four corners at the center of the ceiling, the god Eros steals without hesitation the muse Psyche.
But the most important event to which you could not miss, is held regularly every year, during the evening of 5 February, when the hall, shining lights, with lace and crystals, was filled with guests for attending, from the balconies, the passage of Candlemas and the reliquary bust of St. Agatha, the patron saint of the city, at which citizens are very devoted.
Even today this big apartment opens periodically to cultural events such as exhibitions, chamber music and private events of charitable and cultural, thanks to its prestige and its strategical position, which allows the visit of the most important city monuments.
