Casa Bagnoregio is located in the Bagnorgegio on the town's main road and close to shops and a bar. The house is tastefully furnished, with interiors in cheerful colours and a modern kitchen.
It makes an ideal base for nice daytrips through the area. One of the most beautiful borgs in Italy is located within walking distance. Civita di Bagnoregio is called la città che muore, the dying city. The town got this nickname from the subsidence of the tufa. The town is situated on a tufa plateau and is gradually disintegrating due to erosion. Civita and Bagnoregio used to be connected, but were separated by erosion and earthquakes. Nowadays, Civita is reached from Bagnoregio via a long steep pedestrian bridge. The entry gate is Roman and the foundation was laid by the Etruscans. A vast valley surrounds the town: La Valle dei Calanchi. This landscape is unique in the world, unpopulated and with sparse vegetation. A number of people still live in Civita, there is a restaurant and a few shops and monuments. This unique town is well worth a visit.
Other nice daytrip destinations include Lake Bolsena, Orvieto, Bomarzo, Viterbo and Rome.
