History, art, culture and tradition blend themselves and deeply touch the soul of those who have the chance to visit this charming baronial palace of the 18th century, once cradle of prestige, nobility and magnificence. This huge historical mansion of about 500 sqm is located right in the centre of the medieval hill-top town of Bisenti, being the heart of the community’s life in past times, a place of exchanges, entertainment and socialization, now meeting-point of those generations who escaped from the town to reach a better economical condition. The house is built on three levels and hosts several cellars, storage rooms and stables at the ground-floor that have preserved the excellent genuine products of the local cuisine for many years and, thanks to the accurate work of the owner, still retain beautiful original features such as brick vaulted ceilings and arches.
The largest of the cellars, with a floor space of about 63 sqm, has its own access from the ground-floor and still preserves wonderful cross vaults as well as a stone mosaic flooring.
These rooms host many interesting antique wine casks/tanks and other well maintained food containers.
The main entrance has a large hall with arches, a stone staircase and a characteristic arched door in wood and glass. On the first-floor there are 7 rooms, 3 of them with stunning colourful frescos with floral patterns that, once restored, will give back a regal splendour to the palace. There is also a bathroom, a storage room and a large terrace which is perfect to enjoy relaxing moments contemplating the natural sounds and the swashing of the Fino River, flowing almost under the house. On the second-floor, accessible from a beautiful staircase with iron banisters, there are other 5 rooms as well as another bathroom and storage room. The mansion has got 3 fireplaces and a central heating system that, with the water, electricity and sanitary systems needs updating. Other necessary renovation works to make the house fully inhabitable are the restoration of the roof, of some floorings and of the internal and external plasters. Thanks to its unending floor area, its strategical position at the heart of the town and its original architectural features, this prestigious house is ideal to run a tourists accomodation business (hotel, B&B and similars) as well as hosting the centre of some kind of association that could organise cultural events and exhibitions in the palace.
Bisenti is a peaceful medieval hill-top town at about 35 minutes driving distance from the beach and 30 minutes from the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. Apart from the breathtaking natural environment that surrounds the hamlet, it is very reach in history: the legend says that it has been the birth place of Ponzio Pilato whose house is linked to the Old Fountain with several medieval underground passages. Not to be missed are also the main Church dating back to the fifteenth century with its tall and recently restored bell-tower dominating the town, the ancient medieval watch-tower, the Abbey House and the above mentioned Old Fountain. The history of this attractive place at the foot of the Gran Sasso mountain creates a perfect mix with the interesting culinary tradition and the food and wine gastronomy. Very famous local products are the Montonico, an excellent wine to which the community dedicates each year a joyful revival, the so-called “Tatù” (cocoa and almond biscuits) and the irresistible chocolate, used with several tastes and receipes.
